Fly Fishing Assessment written by Captain Clint Kemp, general manager of the Blackfly Lodge
Our fishing zones in South Abaco allow for great fishing regardless of tides or wind direction - from Mores Island, to the marls, to walk-and-wade opportunities on the south shores. Blackfly Lodge guides aim to get anglers to as many of these zones as possible on each trip. Each of these zones is unique and we have some of the best fishing for Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon available in the world.
Inshore Flats - Expansive layout of productive fishing areas featuring numerous creek systems, white sandy flats, coves and mangrove lined lagoons extending 20 miles north into the Southern Marls and south to the flats and creeks near Sandy Point.. Bones and permit, limited wading.
Cross Harbor - Southern facing bay comprised of approximately seven miles of flats with "world class" wading. There are outer flats to fish the low and incoming tides and several creeks, inlets and mangrove islands that show off the best of what Southern Abaco has to offer....Bones, permit, mutton snappers and tarpon
Gorda Cay - Classic lagoon/mangrove island and oceanside flats fishing. Great wading flats and skiff fishing.....Bones and permit.
Moore's Island - Extensive flats eco system similar to the Marquesas Keys in the Florida Keys covering several square miles of small cays, islands, large hard bottom flats, lagoons and creeks..... Bones, permit, tarpon, mutton snappers and barracudas.
Blue Water - Closest harbor to the famous "Hole in the wall" to the south and Cherokee Sound to the north. Some say it's the best blue water fishing in the Bahamas right at the doorstep of Blackfly Lodge and Schooner Bay......Mahi-Mahi, tuna, wahoo, marlin and sailfish.
